Thank you for showing interest in taking part in this research study! This is a new project that explores what neurodiverse individuals think about the kinds of prenatal education ("prenatal education" can include any class, workshop, seminar, etc. where you learn how to take care of an infant) that might have been helpful to them in the past or might be helpful for them now or in the future. The goal of this research is to help prenatal education be as relevant as possible for all parents, including neurodiverse parents, so your feedback is very valuable. You are being asked to participate in this research study because you are an adult who has received a diagnosis of ADHD, OCD, dyslexia, a learning disability, and/or autism; you don’t need to be a parent or to have taken any prenatal education to take part in this study.
Please take time to read this information carefully. If there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information, you can contact lead researcher Rebecca Stiller at [email protected]. You can also show this page to someone else for advice if you would like.
Your role in the project, and what you will be asked to do:
Taking part in this research involves completing an anonymous online questionnaire, which will likely take you about thirty minutes to finish, depending on the length of your answers.
What will happen during the questionnaire?
During the interview, you will be asked to write out a response to between ten and fifteen questions about prenatal education. You will have as much time as you need to think about and answer each question. If there are any questions you don’t want to answer, you can skip them. If you ever need a break during the questionnaire, you are free to pause the questionnaire, take a break for as long as you need, and come back to answering the questions afterward. If at any point you want to stop the questionnaire, you can and you don’t have to give an explanation. If you choose to enter your email at the end of the questionnaire (it will not be linked to your responses), you will be entered to win a $50 CAD Amazon gift card. The virtual gift card winner will be selected and emailed once all the questionnaires are done.
What are the possible risks of taking part?
If you take part in this project and share about your experience, there is a risk of psychological or emotional discomfort; for example, anxiety, stress, feelings of embarrassment, loss of confidence, or regret for sharing personal information. In order to manage these risks, any information you share will be anonymous, which means that no one will know exactly who shared what information in the questionnaire. Also, you will be free to stop the questionnaire without giving a reason. Involvement in this project will also involve some loss of time on your part; however, you do have the opportunity to be reimbursed for your time with a $50.00 CAD Amazon gift card if you win the draw!
What are the possible benefits of taking part?
Health services professionals, teachers, and other service providers might be able to use the information from this study to make prenatal education better for all parents, including neurodiverse parents. You also have the chance to win a $50 CAD gift card.
What services are available to participants after the research is completed?
If you need to speak with someone after the research process is finished about concerns or challenges that have come up for you as a result of involvement in this project, you can contact Homewood Health, which provides free, confidential, one-on-one virtual counselling in Canada, by calling 1-866-585-0445.
Who else can I contact if I have concerns or questions about this research study?
Module Convenor: Jan McArthur ([email protected])
Head of Department: Paul Ashwin ([email protected])
How I will use your data:
During the questionnaire when you are answering questions, your responses will be recorded by the computer program so that I can read and review them; however, the questionnaire is anonymous, so the responses won’t be linked to you in any way. All of your responses will be stored securely, in line with Lancaster University's data management protocols.
I will use the anonymous data collected during this research to write journal articles, conference presentations, website content, and infographics to explain our results. You will be sent a summary of the results once I have analysed the data, so that you can see how the study turned out and what I learned.
What do I have to do now?
